15. You see this pocket watch? Way back, when trains first started running, most people lived by sun time. It was time to get up, time to milk the cows, time to eat; clock time wasnt that important, and it didnt much matter if each familys clock had a slightly different time. But if two conductors had different times on their watches, their trains could be in danger. Everything had to be on a strict schedule so that the trains wouldnt run into each other. |

16. So the railroads made sure their conductors had the same time, and eventually, railroad time became the standard time for the whole country. This pocket watch reminds me of that, and of my 25 years as flagman. I enjoyed every minute! |
