9. “As you can see, we used this end as an office and kitchen. The conductor and I took turns sleeping at the other end, while one of us stayed awake to watch the train cars from the cupola.”
10. ““What’s up here? What are the high windows for?”
Jip: “That’s the cupola, Bobby Ray; we called it the doghouse. It’s where we’d sit to look over the train as it ran down the track, making sure everything was going smoothly. If we saw something wrong, such as smoke, well, we had a brake handle up there and we’d stop the train.”
