Grandma: “In the 1950s, Rev. Steele and other ministers in Tallahassee organized the Inter Civic Council. The council did a lot to help integrate. It sure was hard times. Black churches played a big role in changing things for the better.”
Wanda: “Look at this awesome chair! It looks like a throne.”
Grandma: “That’s where the minister would sit, then the choir behind him, and the congregation would fill up these pews. Right up front are the benches for the church mothers and deacons. I can just see it.”
